Unit 5 Requirements
The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn has been argued about ever since it was first published. It is often on the American Library Association’s list of 100 most frequently challenged books.
Process
A. Narrows the topic adequately.
B. Works from a plan which includes a thesis statement and outline.
C. Locates and accesses appropriate resources, appropriate specifics.
D. Collects information according to teacher specifications.
E. Analyzes and assimilates research.
F. Writes and revises paper; meets deadline.
Paper Quality
A. The paper’s organization is clear and effective; appropriate
transitions are used.
B. The thesis statement is thoroughly developed with specific support
from the research.
C. Sources are paraphrased and/or quoted accurately and effectively.
D. Sources are integrated.
E. The writing style is effective.
F. There are few mechanical errors.
Documentation
A. Avoids plagiarism by paraphrasing and quoting adequately.
B. Follows a consistent procedure for crediting sources according to
teacher instruction.
C. Credits all quoted and paraphrased material.
Paper Format - The paper must include:
A. Title page and outline.
B. Three to five page body
C. "Works Cited" page.
D. Paper must be neatly typed.
You will be exploring these questions and the novel to create a research
paper with an accompanying poster,
movie, or a PowerPoint presentation. Other presentation formats can be used:
check with your teacher.
All work will be presented to the class. After each presentation, there will then be a question and answer session.
Your completed project must explain why Huck Finn has been banned, whether or not it should be banned, and the value or danger of the book. You must give quotes/examples from the book (beginning, middle, and end) and from other articles, videos, etc. Parenthetical citations and works cited entries must be used.
Grading Rubric: These multimedia projects will be graded for content, organization, style/language usage, and design.
